figura

Figura is an ongoing photographic series rooted in what I call the art of noticing: a practice of attention and presence that begins with slowing down and looking at what usually goes unnoticed, such as the traces left by water on the surfaces around us.

In these overlooked traces, presences seem to emerge from walls, stones, and ground marked by moisture. Water seeps in, evaporates, and leaves its imprints. Within these marks, silhouettes begin to take shape, sometimes faces, figures that my eye recognizes and that photography helps reveal.

These apparitions might simply be the result of our tendency to recognize familiar shapes in random patterns, a phenomenon known as pareidolia. But I also like to imagine that they might suggest a presence, or even a consciousness embedded in matter.

The title Figura refers to an ancient concept in Christian thought, in which a visible form can point to an invisible or spiritual reality. This idea resonates with the figures I encounter without really looking for them, as though something were manifesting itself through matter.
